Do Wives Need to Work?

Posted on

This may pose a different light of the Bible to everyone. The question of women having career and work always intimidate the wives especially mothers. Even though it is wonderful to be with our children at home, I realize another element of the Bible often are laid aside. Proverbs 31, which is the Old Testament. May this impart wisdom to the women, soon to be wives and even mothers.

Do you believe in taking care of your parents financially and physically during their old age? My friends’ and my mothers are good examples and inspirations to my friends, siblings and I. Having enough money can

  1. Contribute to the house loan;
  2. Care our parents financially;
  3. Secondary income in case of husband unemployment.
  4. Touch wood in case husband passes away due to accident or sickness. Therefore, we need to pray for our husbands’ well being and protection. Our younger days were filled with the reality of the pangs of desperation. We have been observing the struggling widows making their ends meet to feed their children. Our parents discuss about the widows’ lifelong journey and succeed to care their children. This is a good news.

Then we can feed the children and provide them with good education to increase their employability skills.

Everyone, please read the Bible clearly who are at risk. The widows and the orphans. Does it mean the grown up children do not need to take care of our old aged parents who take care of us with love to grown ups? Remember who strengthen our feeble hands and legs during our younger days.

Some of my friends and my mothers work. When our dads are having a hard time to earn the money, our mothers use their money to provide for the family and continue our education. They can still help the poor who are in need. So that the poor can stand up and help others.

Does it mean wives no need to work? Please read and digest Proverbs 31 and share your feedback on this issue. I know this is the harsh facts of life I am sharing throughout my friends’ and my lives. It is the reality of life and we see God’s goodness and providence though we receive Christ in our late teens.

Many women of faith love to quote that earning money is the husbands’ responsibilities whereas house is the the wives’ responsibilities. Does this exempt them from helping financially? However, the book of proverbs 31 and my mother’s life inspire me. My bunch of friends have similar predicament too. Our mothers enable to continue our education from college to bachelor honours when our dads were going through financial difficulties. Our parents believe to equip us with the fishing rod instead of giving us the fishes. Their best efforts and fishes are spent to strengthen the feeble new generation. We thank The Lord for our parents and strive to be a blessings and inspire others. God bless you all for reading my poetry to minister.

Do we earn money through honest means?
There are many honest work to earn income honestly
Living honestly as living sacrifice to our Lord
To love our Lord through honest living
And to expedite His kingdom come
Through our lives

Proverbs 11:1 (NIV)
The Lord detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with Him. When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.

Proverbs 16:10-12 (NIV)
The lips of a king speak as an oracle, and his mouth does not betray justice. Honest scales and balances belong to the Lord; all the weights in the bag are of His making. Kings detest wrongdoing, for a throne is established through righteousness.

Proverbs 20:22-24 (NIV)
Do not say, “I’ll pay you back for this wrong!” Wait for the Lord, and He will avenge you. The Lord detests differing weights, and dishonest scales do not please Him. A person’s steps are directed by the Lord. How then can anyone understand their own way?

Inspiration On: Saturday, 29 June 2013 from 12:29am to 1:35am

I have been looking for projects to earn my income honestly. Unexpectedly, “ih” acronym is produced. However, I reversed its acronym to make it more meaningful. Then I checked from the dictionary where ‘hi’ is the abbreviation of: Hawaii, high intensity, and humidity index. Hi is used to express greeting and to refer to hey. Hey is used to attract attention or to express surprise, appreciation, wonder, or pleasure. Then the words “hey I’m here” seems perfect.

Comparison between Labour & Rest with Sluggard & Slothfulness

Refer: Psalm 46 and Proverbs 6:6-11

Why do people tend to dislike work and feels that enjoyment is better than labour? Seems that they can not relate and find pleasure in what they work for. The book of Proverbs describes a comparison between the hard worker (diligent) and the lazy (slothful) very well. It doesn’t mean we work without rest.

Without rest, our productivity level will drop. Somehow, we need to balance rest with work. I do enjoy my work, but I am also guilty for not letting my body rest. My migraine relapses whenever I work too much with enough sleep. Vomit and my mind can not concentrate are the side effects of migraine. So my whole day is spent on bed feeling guilty without being able to do anything. My mother has been telling me to have enough rest, but I tend to ignore it.

We use our hands to do the labour that is pleasing to God, not abusing it for wrongdoing. Proverbs 6:6-11 speaks to us as a metaphor of the ants’ hard work was not done at the eyes of their overseer. But I often hear from my friends that some of them tend to work hard when their supervisor is around.

After our labour, we need to let God do the rest while we have a good sleep (Ecclesiastes 5:11-13).

Throughout the Bible, the description of the slothful and emphasize to be diligent can be found from Judges 18:9; Proverbs 12:24,27; 15:19; 18:9; 19:24; 21:25; 22:13; 24:30; 26:13-15; Romans 12:11; Hebrews 6:12.

We as a worker need to keep The book of Colossians 3:23-25 in mind. The verses are explained much clearer in the version of King James Version than in New International:

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. 25 Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for their wrongs, and there is no favoritism.

Another Scripture we need to take heed is God’s displeasure in earning money unjustly. Refer to Leviticus 19:34-37; Proverbs 20:9-11,22-24; Micah 6:10-12. There are many verses more in the Scriptures.
